ATLANTA- House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) today announced the appointment of Eva Galambos to the Georgia Commission on the Holocaust. A brief biography is below:
Eva Galambos, Sandy Springs– Galambos is the Mayor of Sandy Springs. She is a retired economist specializing in urban finance and labor economics. She also served as an arbitrator resolving disputes between labor and management. Galambos was president of the Committee for Sandy Springs from 1975-2005, leading the effort to incorporate Sandy Springs as a City. She is a co-founder and former secretary of Sandy Springs Revitalization; founder of Sandy Springs Clean and Beautiful; chairwoman of Services Committee for the Sandy Springs Council of Neighborhoods; former chairwoman of the Fulton County Public Housing Authority, and founder of Sandy Springs Civic Roundtable. Galambos has a PhD in economics from Georgia State University, a Masters Degree in Labor and Industrial Relations from the University of Illinois and a Bachelor in Business Administration from the University of Georgia. She is married, has three adult children, six grandchildren.
About the Georgia Commission on the Holocaust
The Georgia Commission on the Holocaust was established to educate the citizens of Georgia about the consequences of hate, prejudice, and discrimination through the lessons of the Holocaust. These lessons are taught in order to cultivate positive character development and to foster the understanding of the significance of good citizenship.
The Commission was established by Executive Order by Governor Joe Frank Harris in 1986. Governor Zell Miller re-established the Commission upon taking office and charged it with creating education programs for the citizens. In 1998, by act of the Georgia General Assembly, the Commission became a permanent state agency. The Commission consists of fifteen members appointed equally by the Governor, Lt. Governor and Speaker of the House.
