ATLANTA— House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) recently appointed State Representative Ben Harbin (R-Evans) to serve as Co-Chair on the Georgia Technology Authority Oversight Committee. The appointment was made pursuant to O.C.G.A 50-25-15.
“I am thankful to Speaker Ralston for appointing me to serve as Co-Chair on this valuable committee for another term,” said Rep. Harbin. “As technology is ever-changing in today’s society, it is critical that we stay up to speed with the latest trends and ensure that the Technology Authority is continually functioning at its best.”
The Georgia Technology Authority Oversight Committee periodically reviews the operations, contracts, financing, organization, and structure of the Georgia Technology Authority. It also reviews and evaluates the success with which the authority accomplishes its legislatively created purposes.
The Committee is composed of three members of the House of Representatives and three members of the Senate. The Speaker of the House makes appointments for the House and the President of the Senate makes appointments for the Senate. The members of the Committee serve for terms concurrent with their terms as members of the General Assembly.
Additionally, the Speaker of the House appoints a co-chairman of the committee from the members appointed from the House, and the President of the Senate appoints a co-chairman from the members appointed from the Senate. Both the co-chairpersons serve for terms concurrent with their terms as members of the General Assembly.
Representative Ben Harbin represents the citizens of District 122, which includes portions of Columbia County. He was elected into the House of Representatives in 1994, and currently serves as the Vice Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Health. He also serves on the Energy, Utilities & Telecommunications, Insurance, and Ways & Means committees.
