ATLANTA- Representative John Meadows (R-Calhoun) has been named chairman of the House Insurance Committee. House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) made the announcement during the first week of the legislative session.
“John Meadows will bring solid and thoughtful leadership to the House Insurance Committee as its chairman,” said Speaker Ralston. “He is an outstanding leader with strong conservative principles and I look forward to working with him as he advocates for the insurance consumers of Georgia.”
The House Insurance Committee oversees legislation that affects all lines of business within the insurance industry, as well as the agents and companies that sell insurance products. It also has primary oversight of the Georgia Department of Insurance. The members of the committee, and more importantly the chairman, must balance the interests of consumers and business interests while striving to keep the industry competitive and rates as low as possible.
“I am honored that Speaker Ralston has given me the opportunity to serve as chairman of the House Insurance Committee,” said Chairman Meadows. “I have had the pleasure of serving for the last five years on the Insurance Committee under Representative Tom Knox, and I appreciate his knowledge and look forward to Knox’s campaign for Insurance Commissioner.”
Representative Meadows will also continue to serve in the House of Representatives as a member of the following committees: Natural Resources and Environment, Governmental Affairs, Retirement, and Ways and Means.
Representative John Meadows represents the citizens of District Five, which includes portions of Gordon and Murray Counties. He was elected into the House of Representatives in 2004.
