Joint Study Committee on Transportation Funding Co-Chair Jay Roberts Comments on Final Meeting in Rome

ATLANTA — State Representative Jay Roberts (R-Ocilla) today released the following statement as the Joint Study Committee on Critical Transportation Infrastructure Funding prepares to conclude its series of meetings, with the final meeting to be held in Rome, Georgia:

“Over the last several months, our committee has traveled to all corners of this state, as we explored various transportation needs in each region. We will conclude our hearings and discussions in Rome, Georgia next month where we will have the opportunity to hear from local officials in this vastly growing area.

“As we continue to gear up for the committee’s final series of meetings, I would like to thank my colleague, Representative Katie Dempsey. Her leadership, guidance and perspective have been critical in allowing us to finalize the details for this hearing. Rep. Dempsey’s insight and understanding of Rome’s transportation infrastructure and its needs, as well as the needs of the state as a whole, has provided me and my fellow committee members with a tremendous amount of knowledge as we look ahead to this final meeting. We look forward to hearing from residents of Rome to further assess the area’s transportation needs.”

The committee will hold its final two meetings on Wednesday, November 19 in Blue Ridge and on Thursday, November 20 in Rome. Additional meeting information will be forthcoming.
Co-chaired by State Senator Steve Gooch (R-Dahlonega) and State Representative Jay Roberts (R-Ocilla), the joint study committee is tasked with identifying new sources and methods of funding for critical transportation infrastructure needs. The joint study committee was created by House Resolution 1573, which passed the state House and Senate during the 2014 legislative session.
