ATLANTA – State Representative Glenn Baker (D-Jonesboro) today led the Georgia House of Representatives in passing House Resolution 476, recognizing the achievements of Mr. James Eugene “Gene” Sutherland Sr.
“Gene Sutherland is certainly fitting of this recognition,” said Rep. Baker. “I am glad to honor him for his longtime leadership and personal commitment to the betterment of the residents of Georgia.”
“Mr. Gene continues to be a fixture in Georgia Agriculture as he has over the past decades,” said Rep. Tom McCall (R-Elberton), Chairman of the House Agriculture and Consumer Affairs Committee. “Facilities from the Atlanta farmers to the Agricenter in Perry all have Mr. Gene’s mark of leadership excellence on them.”
Mr. Sutherland is the president and owner of Sutherland’s Foodservice, Inc., the last independent broad-line food service distributor in the Atlanta area. He is a member of the board of directors of the Atlanta Produce Dealer Association and was instrumental in the formation of AgriTrust of Georgia. Mr. Sutherland has also been recognized as the Southern Crescent Vision’s Career Success Award in 2004 and the first Legend Award from Woodward Academy in 2011.
In addition to receiving HR 476, Mr. Sutherland was also honored by Governor Deal and Agriculture Commissioner Gary Black.

Representative Glenn Baker represents the citizens in District 78, which includes portions of Clayton and Henry counties. He was first elected into the House of Representatives in 2008, and currently serves on the Agriculture and Consumer Affairs, Appropriations, Economic Development & Tourism, Energy, Utilities & Telecommunications, Game, Fish & Parks, and Transportation committees.
Representative Tom McCall represents the citizens of District 30, which includes Elbert County, and portions of Jackson and Madison counties. He was elected into the House of Representatives in 1994, and is currently the Chairman of Agriculture & Consumer Affairs Committee. He also serves on the Game, Fish, & Parks, Natural Resources & Environment, and Transportation committees.
