ATLANTA – State Representatives David Dreyer (D-Atlanta), Derrick Jackson (D-Tyrone) and Angelika Kausche (D-Johns Creek) today issued the following statement regarding voting issues during the Georgia primary election on June 9, 2020:
“As members of the leadership of the Fulton County House Delegation, we want to clearly state that the majority of the widespread voting problems experienced in Georgia during the primary election on June 9, 2020, were a direct result of Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger’s flawed new voting machines and the inadequate training of county election administrators.
“Instead of taking responsibility for his actions, the secretary of state has instead chosen to point the finger at others. The greatest failures of the June 9 primary lie with the secretary of state and his inability to adequately oversee a statewide election.
“The Fulton County House Legislative Delegation has already introduced legislation to drastically improve the administration of elections in Fulton County, and this was done, as it should have been, by locally elected officials in Fulton County.
“Instead, the secretary of state’s attempt to strip local control from locally elected officials is unconscionable and has its roots in a poisonous strain of voter suppression in our state.
“We urge every citizen in Fulton County and Georgia to oppose the secretary of state’s attempt to deflect the blame he is due and usurp local control.”
