ATLANTA – State Representative Michael Caldwell (R-Woodstock) and State Representative Dar’shun Kendrick (D-Lithonia) today announced the creation of the Georgia Future Caucus, a bipartisan group of legislators under the age of 40. The Future Caucus will be co-chaired by Reps. Caldwell and Kendrick and will focus on passing bipartisan legislation on issues affecting Georgians under the age of 40.
“Georgia’s Future Caucus embodies a principle that I’ve always held dear: partisanship should never stand in the way of good policy,” said Rep. Caldwell. “I look forward to partnering with young legislators on both sides of the aisle to find bipartisan legislation that is good for Georgians.”
“I look forward to working with this new caucus to use innovative thinking to seek new and bipartisan solutions to the problems in Georgia,” said Rep. Kendrick.
The new caucus will join Millennial Action Project’s (MAP) mission to support elected officials under the age of 40 and establish bipartisan political cooperation and create progress through government institutions. Georgia is the 17th state to join MAP’s network of future caucuses across the country. Millennial Action Project has worked with more than 300 state legislators in 15 states, including Texas, Nebraska, and California. Future Caucuses throughout the country are working on issues that millennials care about to provide a voice for these citizens.
“Millennials won’t stand for politics as usual and are showing other lawmakers that it’s not only possible, but beneficial, to cooperate across party lines,” said Steven Olikara, co-founder and president of MAP. “I’m thrilled that leaders like Reps. Kendrick and Caldwell are working together to guarantee that the issues all millennials in Georgia care about are a priority this session.”
MAP is a national, nonpartisan 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to activating millennial policymakers to bridge the partisan divide and lead a new era of collaborative governance. In 2013 MAP organized America’s first-ever bipartisan caucus for members of Congress under the age of 40, the Congressional Future Caucus. MAP’s Future Caucus Network has expanded and grown into the largest nonpartisan organization of millennial elected officials in the U.S.

Representative Michael Caldwell represents the citizens of District 20, which includes portions of Cherokee County. He was first elected into the House of Representatives in 2012 and currently serves as the Secretary of the Code Revision committee. He also serves on the Budget and Fiscal Affairs Oversight, Code Revision, Economic Development & Tourism, and State Planning & Community Affairs committees. He is a member of the Medical Cannabis working group.
Representative Dar’shun Kendrick represents the citizens of District 93, which includes portions of DeKalb and Gwinnett Counties. She was elected into the House of Representatives in 2010, and currently serves on the Interstate Cooperation, Judiciary Non-Civil, Juvenile Justice, and Small Business Development committees.
