Meets with Government Officials to Discuss Flood Recovery

ATLANTA – State Representative Alisha Thomas Morgan (D-Austell) continued her efforts to assist with the north Georgia flood recovery last week by traveling to Washington, DC to meet with representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Department of Homeland Security, and senior congressional representatives to discuss the severe flooding that ravaged the Austell area and other parts of North Georgia.

“I want people to know that I’m doing my due diligence to assist my community in this difficult time. My constituents have questions, and I’m not stopping until I get answers,” said Rep. Morgan.
Rep. Morgan used her limited time in Washington to address the offices of senior congressional leaders in positions to most affect Georgia’s recovery efforts. Among those were Congresswomen Maxine Waters (D-CA) and Barbara Lee (D-CA). During her meeting with these leaders, Rep. Morgan explained the damage inflicted to North Georgia and the need for immediate federal aid.
Rep. Waters currently serves as chair of the Subcommittee on Housing and Community Opportunity of the House Committee on Financial Services, which has direct oversight of FEMA, the organization that facilitates all federal government recovery efforts and administers all federal aid & assistance to help with disaster relief and recovery. FEMA is now part of the Department of Homeland Security.
Congresswoman Lee serves as chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, representing all 42 African-America members of Congress, including Rep. Waters and Rep. David Scott (D-GA).
Rep. Morgan plans to share the information she received from her trip in an email update to her constituents to be released later this week. She also plans to host another town hall to update victims and assist them in their rebuilding efforts.
