ATLANTA – Today state Representative Mary Margaret Oliver, along with her fellow women legislators, presented the members of the Georgia House of Representatives with copies of “Voices of Hope,” an inspirational CD recorded by the Metro State Prison Women’s Choir with special guest performer, Emily Saliers of the Indigo Girls.
“This gift is given in honor of all Georgians who volunteer to help others in need,” said Representative Oliver. “I appreciate that so many Georgians volunteer to serve others.”
The Metro State Prison Women’s Choir is led by Chaplain Susan Bishop, a dedicated individual who has served as a Chaplain for 25 years. The CD is a recording of the choir’s performance at Emory’s Cannon Chapel on November 25, 2008. After receiving financial support from Emily Saliers, a member of Georgia’s Music Hall of fame, and James Waites, former dean of Emory’s Candler School of Theology, the Metro State Prison Women’s Choir was able to make their 2008 recording available for purchase.
All proceeds from the purchase of the “Voices of Hope” CDs will benefit the Children’s Center and a program that facilitates visitation of children to their mothers in the prison.
