ATLANTA – State Representative Joe Campbell (R-Camilla) today announces that the Georgia Council for the Arts (GCA), a division of the Georgia Department of Economic Development, recently awarded a $5,000 Arts Education Program Grant to Baconton Community Charter School for a Fiber Arts Sewing Lab in Mitchell County. The funding is part of GCA’s General Operating Support, Project and Arts Education Program grants.

Over the past several years, we have sounded the alarm about Georgia’s failure to fully fund its Quality Basic Education (QBE) formula and public schools, especially when it comes to essential areas like student transportation, school safety and support for children living in poverty. Now, with the passage of Congress’ federal budget legislation, we are witnessing the collapse of another lifeline—free and reduced-price school meals. The federal government is shifting more responsibility to the states for essential services like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

Georgia House to Host Prayer Service for Victims and Survivors of Texas Floods

ATLANTA – House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) and members of the Georgia House of Representatives will host a prayer service for the victims and survivors of the catastrophic Texas floods and provide information about organizations and relief efforts Georgians can support. The service will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at 11 a.m. at the South Wing Steps of the Georgia State Capitol.
