It’s Time to Hold Billion-Dollar Retailers Accountable for Worker Safety

Last year, I toured an Amazon facility in my district following concerns from workers that severe safety issues were going unaddressed. During my tour at the ATL6 facility in East Point, I spoke directly to Amazon ATL6 employees who raised concerns about issues, including but not limited to: lack of training for new hires, overheating in the warehouse, inadequate break periods, rising injury rates from unsafe working conditions, constant management surveillance, ineffective health and safety teams, increased workloads with no pay increase, unsafe working pace, unstable scheduling and lack of security measures outside of the warehouse. What followed was a robust campaign by these Amazon associates, supported by the worker advocacy organization United for Respect and legislators including myself, to get Amazon to address the deteriorating working conditions at the facility that were putting associates at risk. In an effort to get Amazon to listen to its employees and take concrete action to improve working conditions, associates sent letters to management, held on-site meetings and rallied at the facility to make their voices heard.

Speaker Jon Burns Applauds Creation of Subcommittee of Rules on Lawsuit Reform

ATLANTA – Today, House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) praised State Representative Butch Parrish (R-Swainsboro), Chairman of the House Rules Committee, for his creation of the Subcommittee of Rules on Lawsuit Reform. This subcommittee is tasked with considering proposed legislation that addresses changes to Georgia’s legal environment—Senate Bill 68 and Senate Bill 69.

Reps. Sandra Scott, Viola Davis and Kim Schofield Issue Statement on the Introduction of the Investing in Every Student Act

ATLANTA – State Representatives Sandra Scott (D-Rex), Viola Davis (D-Stone Mountain) and Kim Schofield (D-Atlanta) recently introduced House Bill 27, the Investing in Every Student Act, which would provide grants to local school systems from the State Board of Education to support students living in poverty. City of South Fulton Legislative Delegation Elects Members for 2025-2026 Term, Rep. Debra Bazemore Elected Chair

ATLANTA – State Representative Debra Bazemore (D-South Fulton), along with members of the City of South Fulton Legislative Delegation, recently met to elect its delegation members for the 2025-2026 legislative term. Rep. Bazemore was elected Chair of the delegation and State Representative Robert Dawson (D-Atlanta) was selected Secretary.
