As the state representative for House District 170, I have always prioritized the safety and well-being of children and families throughout our district and across Georgia. However, I am deeply troubled by a significant rise in child abuse and neglect cases reported in Tift, Cook and Berrien counties. The safety of our children is at risk, and this alarming trend demands action.

ATLANTA – State Representatives Viola Davis (D-Stone Mountain), Sandra Scott (D-Rex) and Kim Schofield (D-Atlanta) recently released an updated legislative summary and vision report, which seeks to highlight their accomplishments from the 2023 – 2024 legislative term and their goals for 2025. Part Two of Two: Breaking Free from Tax Enslavement – Solutions for Georgia’s Donor Counties


In Part One of this editorial series, we explored the inequities in Georgia’s school tax system – inequities that shackle donor counties like DeKalb, Fulton and Cobb to a system of tax enslavement. These counties are burdened with higher property taxes yet see their contributions redistributed to other parts of the state through mechanisms like the Equalization Fund and Sparsity Grant.
