Georgia Legislators Announce Creation of First Formal Legislative Asian American Pacific Islander Caucus
ATLANTA – Members of the Georgia General Assembly today announced the creation of the first formal Georgia Legislative Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Caucus. Starting in 2023, Georgia will have the most AAPI legislators of any state legislature in the nation.
Rep. Billy Mitchell Re-Elected House Minority Caucus Chairman
ATLANTA – The Georgia House Democratic Caucus recently re-elected State Representative Billy Mitchell (D-Stone Mountain) as the House Minority Caucus Chairman for the 2023-2024 legislative term during caucus elections on Tuesday, November 22, 2022.
“In my leadership role, I have served consistently and fairly and will continue to balance the interests of the caucus,” said Chairman Mitchell. “Having served in the House for 20 years, I hope to continue to do great things for our caucus because the caucus is at its best when we work together towards our shared goals.”
In this position, Chairman Billy Mitchell will lead the House Minority Caucus’ operations. He will preside over the Minority Caucus meetings, oversee incumbent re-elections, and spearhead candidate recruitment, among other responsibilities.
This will be Chairman Billy Mitchell’s 11th term in the Georgia House of Representatives and his second term as the Majority Caucus Chairman.
Representative Billy Mitchell currently represents the citizens of District 88, which includes portions of DeKalb County. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2002 and currently serves as Chairman of the House Minority Caucus. He also serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation and the Banks & Banking, Health & Human Services and Regulated Industries committees.

Rep. Shea Roberts Elected House Minority Caucus Treasurer
ATLANTA – The Georgia House Democratic Caucus recently elected State Representative Shea Roberts (D-Atlanta) as the House Minority Caucus Treasurer for the 2023-2024 legislative term during caucus elections on Tuesday, November 22, 2022.
“I am grateful to my colleagues in the House Minority Caucus for selecting me to serve as their treasurer,” said Minority Caucus Treasurer, Rep. Roberts. “I am thrilled to serve in this capacity alongside such a wonderful and dynamic group of leaders. Together, we will fight to ensure that the interests of all Georgians are best represented under the Gold Dome.”
In this position, Rep. Roberts is responsible for all Minority Caucus funds.
This will be Rep. Roberts’ second term in the Georgia House of Representatives and her first term as Minority Caucus Treasurer.
Representative Shea Roberts currently represents the citizens of District 52, which includes portions of Fulton County. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 2020 and currently serves as the House Minority Caucus Treasurer. She also serves on the Governmental Affairs, State Planning & Community Affairs and Science and Technology committees.
