ATLANTA – State Representative Viola Davis (D-Stone Mountain) seeks to make constituents aware that a local referendum would be required to change the composition/number of members on the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners. Rep. Davis recently consulted the Georgia General Assembly Office of Legislative Counsel regarding recent efforts to change the county’s super district commission seats and/or add new regular commission seats.

Rep. Petrea Introduces Legislation to Create Retired Income Tax Exemption for Georgia Military Retirees

ATLANTA – State Representative Jesse Petrea (R-Savannah), chairman of the House Human Relations & Aging Committee, recently introduced House Bill 1064, legislation that would create a tax exemption for military retirement income. Rep. Petrea is carrying HB 1064 on behalf of Governor Brian Kemp, who recently announced that he would support legislation to provide up to $35,000 in income tax exemptions for military retirees in Georgia.

Rep. Carson Introduces “Parents’ Bill of Rights” Legislation

ATLANTA – State Representative John Carson (R-Marietta) recently introduced House Bill 1158, or the Georgia “Parents’ Bill of Rights.” Through this legislation, Rep. Carson seeks to establish and protect parental rights regarding education, health information and upbringing, as well as enable transparency between schools/school systems and parents. He also seeks to curb special interest groups from promoting teaching materials in public school classrooms without parental consent.
