House Study Committee on Reducing and Prioritizing Mandates for Public School Administration to Hold Fourth Meeting in Metter

ATLANTA – The House Study Committee on Reducing and Prioritizing Mandates for Public School Administration, chaired by State Representative Shaw Blackmon (R-Bonaire), will hold its fourth meeting on Friday, October 24, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Metter College & Career Academy in Metter, Georgia.

Created by House Resolution 887, this study committee will conduct a review of existing mandates relating to public school administration to evaluate best practices for reducing and prioritizing mandates for public school administrators and recommend legislative and policy initiatives to that end.

ATLANTA – State Representative Regina Lewis-Ward (D-McDonough) recently was awarded a GA ReLeaf grant to support a Community Tree Giveaway Event across her district, House District 115. This initiative will provide free trees to residents with the goal of connecting neighborhoods and improving the environmental, economic and social health of disadvantaged homeowners and residents in Stockbridge and Stonecrest, Georgia.

DeKalb House Delegation Convenes Emergency Meeting, Creates Subcommittee to Address Superintendent Indictment

ATLANTA – State Representatives Karla Drenner (D-Avondale Estates), Viola Davis (D-Stone Mountain) and Doreen Carter (D-Lithonia) recently convened an emergency meeting of the DeKalb House Delegation to address the recent indictment of DeKalb County School Superintendent Dr. Devon Horton. Rep. Drenner, chair of the delegation, also recently established a special subcommittee charged with gathering facts, reviewing current state law and exploring potential legislation to prevent similar situations in the future.
