Rep. Al Williams Appointed to House Study Committee on Base Realignment and Closure

ATLANTA – House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) recently appointed State Representative Al Williams (D-Midway) to the House Study Committee on Base Realignment and Closure.

“As a veteran and a resident of Liberty County, the home to the largest Army base east of the Mississippi – Fort Stewart, I understand the significant role that our state’s military bases and military personnel have in Georgia,” said Rep. Williams. “I look forward to serving as a member of this study committee as my colleagues and I explore ways to protect our military population and prevent base closures from happening in our state. I am grateful to Speaker Ralston for allowing me to serve in this capacity.”

This fifteen member study committee, Chaired by State Representative Dave Belton (R-Buckhead), is established by House Resolution 1135 and will examine how to protect Georgia’s military installations from a future federal base realignment and closure action.
