ATLANTA – State Representative Al Williams (D-Midway) was recently named by Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) to serve as a member of the House Study Committee on Navigable Streams and Related Matters.
“Having previously served on the House Study Committee on Fishing Access to Freshwater Resources last year, I understand that this is a serious matter, and it is very important to many Georgians,” said Rep. Williams. “I look forward to studying this issue further this year.”
The House Study Committee on Navigable Streams and Related Matters was established following the adoption of House Resolution 1554 during the 2024 legislative session. This study committee will examine aspects of navigable streams in this state and the issues surrounding their ownership, private and public rights of use and other related matters and may make recommendations for proposed legislation ahead of the 2025 legislative session.
Speaker Burns also appointed the following study committee members: State Representatives Lynn Smith (R-Newnan), Stan Gunter (R-Blairsville), John Corbett (R-Lake Park), Johnny Chastain (R-Blue Ridge) and James Burchett (R-Waycross); Mr. Jud Turner will serve as the non-legislative member.
Representative Al Williams represents the citizens of District 168, which includes portions of Liberty County. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2002 and currently serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Public Safety and the Defense & Veterans Affairs, Economic Development & Tourism, Game, Fish & Parks, Regulated Industries and Rules committees.
