Rep. Alex Atwood’s Marine Conservation Fund Legislation Passes House Committee

ATLANTA – State Representative Alex Atwood (R-St. Simons) today announced that the House Motor Vehicles Committee recently passed House Bill 736 out of committee, and the bill will now go before the Rules Committee for consideration before it can be eligible for a vote on the House floor. HB 736 would create a special Georgia license plate promoting marine habitat conservation.

“This legislation to create this tag creates a great opportunity to promote some of Georgia’s natural treasures, our marshes, barrier islands, and coastal waterways and will be valuable to Costal Georgia and those who reap the benefits of our aquatic wildlife,” said Rep. Atwood. “The funds from HB 736 would help preserve our natural marine habitats, and I am optimistic about its passage through the General Assembly.”

HB 736 establishes a special license plate promoting marine habitat conservation. The funds raised by the sale of this license plate would go to the Coastal Resources Division of the Department of Natural Resources to supplement marine habitat conservation, restoration, and enhancement projects undertaken to increase the abundance of marine fish and invertebrate species.
