ATLANTA – House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) recently named State Representative Amy Carter (R-Valdosta) as the Chairman of the House Study Committee on HOPE Scholarship Program Award Amount for Critical Career Fields.
“As a K-12 educator for more than 15 years and a technical college educator prior, one of my top priorities in the legislature is education,” said Rep. Carter. “The HOPE Scholarship has granted our students increased access to higher education, and through this study committee, we will examine the possibility of adjusting our resources to award those students who choose to study in career fields where we see a shortage of qualified and skilled workers in our state.”
This four member Study Committee is established by House Resolution 71 and will study how adjustments to the HOPE scholarship award to students pursuing certain fields of study at eligible private postsecondary institutions may eliminate the shortfall of workers in critical career fields.

Representative Amy Carter represents the citizens of District 175, which includes portions of Brooks, Lowndes, and Thomas counties. She was elected into the House of Representatives in 2006 and is currently the Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on General Government. She also serves on the Agriculture & Consumer Affairs, Education, Higher Education, Governmental Affairs, and the Small Business Development committees.
