ATLANTA – State Representative Angela Moore (D-Stonecrest) recently received the President’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA), a national civil award bestowed by President Joe Biden. Rep. Moore will be presented with the award during an official ceremony TOMORROW, Saturday, June 3, 2023, at 2 p.m. at the Rhodes Jordan Park Community & Recreation Center (100 East Crogan Street) in Lawrenceville.
“I am so proud that President Joseph Biden has honored me with this award, but I am even more grateful to my constituents who have put their trust in me,” said Rep. Moore. “Serving under the Gold Dome has been the highlight of a lifetime, and this award reflects the everyday Georgians who motivate me to keep going each day. I would not have the same opportunities without their support.”
Rep. Moore was awarded under the “Lifetime Achievement” category for her extensive hours of volunteerism. The PVSA is a national honor offered in recognition of volunteer commitment. Established in 2003, this award honors individuals and groups who have demonstrated a sustained commitment to volunteer service and helping others through the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation. Rep. Moore was nominated by Dr. Sharron J. Brown, ambassador of Treasure Box International, for this honor.
“This award is a true testament that you may not think that anyone is paying attention to your efforts, but someone sees you,” added Rep. Moore. “The recognition may not come when you expect it, but it will always be right on time.”
Rep. Moore began her volunteer service in her native home of Washington, D.C. by working for former Mayor Marion Barry’s youth council. After moving to Georgia, Rep. Moore continued her volunteer service with numerous local and international organizations, including organizations involved with the African Leadership Magazine that served portions of the African continent and Haiti. Rep. Moore also served as a UNICEF Ambassador and was involved in UNICEF’s zero campaign, which focused on “zero children in poverty; zero children without education; zero children victims of violence; and zero children in institutions.” She was previously named a “Goodwill Ambassador” by former Georgia Secretary of State Cathy Cox.
She currently serves the citizens of House District 91, which includes portions of the Stonecrest, South Rockdale and Stockbridge communities.
