Rep. Atwood Applauds Gov. Deal, House for Inclusion of Funds for College of Coastal Georgia in Budget

ATLANTA – State Representative Alex Atwood (R-St. Simons) today commented on the passage of House Bill 751, the Fiscal Year 2017 state budget, which includes funding for library renovation and expansion at the College of Coastal Georgia in Brunswick. FY2017 passed the House by a vote of 167-1 on Friday, February 19, 2016 and will now go to the Senate for consideration.

“I would like to thank Governor Deal for including these crucial funds in his budget recommendations, as well as Chairman England for securing these funds in the House version of the FY2017 budget,” said Rep. Atwood. “The College of Coastal Georgia is a great asset to my district and to our state, and with the House budget, we have half of the funds needed to complete the library expansion project. I look forward to working with Sen. Ligon and the Senate Appropriations Committee in hopes of securing the remaining funds for the project in the FY2017 budget.”

The House version of the FY2017 budget includes a $903 million bond package providing funding for education, public safety, and transportation projects. The College of Coastal Georgia received a $1 million bond as part of the bond package, which is half of the estimated project cost to complete the library renovation and expansion.
