Rep. Barry Fleming Announces $2 Million in State Budget for Harlem Library

ATLANTA – State Representative Barry Fleming (R-Harlem) today announced that the fiscal year 2016 state budget will include $2 million to fund construction for the new Harlem Library in the Greater Clarks Hill Regional library system in Columbia County. The House of Representatives gave final, unanimous, approval to the fiscal year 2016 budget, or HB 76, on Tuesday, March 31, 2015.

“Every year, the General Assembly invests in our state’s libraries in a continued effort to encourage and promote reading and literacy, and provide increased access to technology and literature,” said Rep. Fleming. “The $2 million in funding for the construction of the new Harlem library will match the funds that the voters of Columbia County approved through a SPLOST. The voters made it clear their strong desire for this new facility in our community, and I am pleased to report back to our citizens that General Assembly has approved state funding for this project. I would like to especially thank my colleague in the Senate, Senator Bill Jackson, for working with me to secure these important funds in the 2016 budget. This would not have been possible without Senator Jackson. I would also like to thank members of the Columbia County delegation, Senator Jesse Stone, Representatives Barbara Sims and Ben Harbin, for their continued support of this initiative in Columbia County. The addition of this library in our town is a big step forward, and I am appreciate of the support from the community as we make this new library a successful place for our children and adults to learn and thrive.”
