Rep. Beasley-Teague Hosts Phenomenal Trailblazers Luncheon

ATLANTA – State Representative Sharon Beasley-Teague (D-Red Oak) recently hosted the annual GA NOBEL Women “Phenomenal Trailblazers” ceremonial luncheon. The event recognized a group of women and men for their accomplishments in their communities and as leaders in today’s civil rights movement.

“It was a pleasure to get together with this group of men and women for an outstanding luncheon,” said Rep. Beasley-Teague. “These talented individuals have achieved so much in their careers and throughout their lives. Each of these individuals demonstrates the true leadership ability that God has blessed them with, and that is why they were each chosen to be recognized at this event. All of these recipients continue to help support today’s civil rights movement and make the world a better place through their work in their communities. It was my honor to recognize them at the annual event.”

The 2015 award recipients were Walter Andrews, Mrs. Juanita Abernathy, Mrs. Naomi King, Cynthia Dabney, Brenda Davenport, Cassandra Merrilles, Catherine Pugh, Jeannette Stephens, Apostle Sylvia J. Toney and Karla Winfrey. Honorees were recognized at a luncheon on Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at Strip Restaurant in Atlantic Station.

Award recipients, Mrs. Naomi King and Mrs. Juanita Abernathy, widows to civil rights icons A.D. King and Ralph David Abernathy, and were also supporters of the civil rights movement.

This event was held in celebration of Women’s History Month. The event was meant to celebrate the women and men that support and work to make life better for those around them.

Representative Sharon Beasley-Teague represents the citizens of District 65, which includes portions of Fulton County. She was elected into the House of Representatives in 1992, and currently serves on the Games, Fish, & Parks, Human Relations & Aging, Legislative & Congressional Reapportionment, and Ways & Means committees.
