Rep. Bennett Honors Retired Fairfield Baptist Church Pastor at the State Capitol

ATLANTA – State Representative Karen Bennett (D-Stone Mountain) welcomed the Rev. Micheal Benton of Fairfield Baptist Church to the Georgia State Capitol on Thursday, March 29, 2018. Benton was joined by his wife, Dr. Y’vonne Benton, and members of the congregation, and during a reception, Rep. Bennett presented Benton with House Resolution 1753 in honor of his 40 years of service to his church and community.

“I felt it was important to recognize the contributions Pastor Benton has made as the spiritual leader of his congregation, as well as the significant contributions his ministry has had in the community,” said Rep. Bennett. “He and Dr. Benton have been mentors, leaders, champions of the family and a source of comfort, guidance and spiritual leadership to all.”

Fairfield Baptist Church, located in Lithonia, Georgia, was established in 1885. Benton was the fifth pastor of Fairfield Baptist Church and served from 1977 to 2017. Benton led the congregation through the construction of two sanctuaries and a family life center, licensed over 75 preachers and ordained five pastors and 40 deacons.

The Rev. Melvin Brooks is Fairfield Baptist Church’s new pastor and is scheduled to be formally installed later this month.
