ATLANTA – State Representative Karen Bennett (D-Stone Mountain), chair of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus (GLBC), recently led the GLBC’s 2019 Annual Legislative Conference (ALC). The 2019 ALC hosted more than 120 registrants and attendees and took place from Thursday, September 26 – Saturday, September 28, 2019, at the Hyatt Regency in Atlanta.
“I want to extend my deepest appreciation to everyone who helped make the 2019 Annual Legislative Conference a successful event,” said Rep. Bennett. “Each year, my colleagues and I look forward to organizing this conference to give the public, policy experts and community stakeholders a chance to learn more about the GLBC’s legislative agenda. This year’s conference inspired GLBC members for the upcoming 2020 legislative session, where we intend to introduce legislation that will not only benefit people of color, but the state as a whole.”
The theme of this year’s conference was “Elevating Georgia: Sustaining Pathways for Tomorrow’s Future 2020 + Beyond,” where the GLBC explored various key legislative issues for the upcoming 2020 legislative session. During the three-day conference, attendees were able to participate in various session tracks that focused on topics such as leadership, innovation, criminal justice, civic engagement, social action, technology and health. The conference also included the Chairwoman’s Civic Engagement Awards luncheon, and this year’s award recipients were honored for their efforts regarding criminal justice reform. The final day of the conference included a Young Policy Leaders Summit.
The GLBC is a non-profit and non-partisan organization, and it seeks to help protect the rights of African Americans, people of color and persons who are disenfranchised.
