Rep. Boddie to Participate in Summer Meals Program

ATLANTA – State Representative William Boddie (D-East Point), in partnership with the Atlanta Community Food Bank, will host a kick-off event for the Summer Meals Program. The kick-off event will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Deer Lick Park in Douglasville. This is the third year that Rep. Boddie has partnered with the Atlanta Community Food Bank for the Summer Meals Program.

“Far too often, the only meals some children receive are the meals that they have at school,” said Rep. Boddie. “This program works to ensure that Georgia’s children have the opportunity to receive healthy meals while they are out of school on summer break.”

Each year, the Atlanta Community Food Bank provides support to sponsoring organizations that host summer meals at meal sites across the state, offering children 18 years and younger the opportunity to get a free, nutritious lunch when school is out of session. Meal sites include various schools, parks and rec centers and more that open up and serve.

This specific kick-off event will host its regular lunch and also provide entertainment for the kids along with remarks from various members of local government, the school systems and more. Media members are welcome to attend beginning at 11am for the press conference, followed by the meal program and activities.

Any child 18 years old and younger is eligible to visit the summer meal sites to receive a free healthy and nutritious meal during the summer months.
