ATLANTA — State Representative Brian Prince (D-Augusta) today re-announced that he will offer nomination letters to qualified Georgia high school seniors seeking the Georgia Military Scholarship at the University of North Georgia. The scholarship application deadline for the 2017-2018 award year was recently extended to March 1, 2017.
“My colleagues and I had the opportunity to visit and tour the University of North Georgia Campus recently and meet with some of the young, aspiring cadets,” said Rep. Prince. “UNG offers a unique environment for Georgia’s best and brightest students to develop their leadership skills, as well as their education, and UNG has produced many esteemed alumni. I hope many young Georgians take advantage of the recently extended scholarship deadline.”
The Georgia Military Scholarship awards 42 scholarships annually, totaling $70,000 over four years. The program enables Georgia high school seniors to attend the University of North Georgia, pursue a bachelor’s degree and commission as second lieutenants in the Georgia Army National Guard after graduation. The scholarship covers the cost of uniforms, tuition, books, fees, room, and board, as well as a monthly stipend.
To qualify, applicants must:
• Be a legal resident of Georgia;
• Receive a nomination letter from a Georgia Legislator from your congressional district;
• Meet the academic requirements and gain acceptance as a regular freshman Cadet at UNG;
• Meet Army National Guard enlistment standards;
• Agree to serve as an enlisted member in the Georgia Army National Guard while participating as a Cadet at UNG; and
• If awarded a scholarship, you must commission upon graduation from UNG and serve four years as an officer in the Georgia Army National Guard.
