ATLANTA — State Representative Brian Prince (D-Augusta) recently announced that he will offer letters of recommendation to qualified Georgia high school seniors seeking the Georgia Military Scholarship at the University of North Georgia.
“As a former Army Officer, I know first-hand the leadership skills, dedication to service and enormous opportunities military service offers,” said Rep. Prince. “That is why I am excited to assist motivated, intelligent, and industrious young people who are willing and ready to serve our state. As a State Representative, I believe that in order to preserve the hard work and accomplishments our state enjoys today, we must prepare and educate future leaders.”
The Georgia Military Scholarship awards 42 scholarships annually, totaling $70,000 each over four years. The scholarship covers the cost of uniforms, tuition, books, fees, room, and board, as well as a monthly stipend. In addition to pursuing a bachelor’s degree from UNG, scholarship recipients will be commissioned officers in the Georgia Army National Guard upon graduation.
To qualify, applicants must:
- Be a legal resident of Georgia;
- Have a minimum high school grade point average of 3.0;
- Have a letter of recommendation from a sitting State Representative or Senator;
- Meet physical and health standards to serve in the Georgia National Guard;
- Be an entering freshman at UNG Corp of Cadets; and
- Be accepted to the University of North Georgia.
