ATLANTA – State Representative Bruce Williamson (R-Monroe) today recognized five Walnut Grove High School students for their accomplishments at the SkillsUSA Annual State Leadership and Skills Conference.
“I commend these young people for their outstanding accomplishments at the SkillsUSA Conference,” said Rep. Williamson. “Their hard work and dedication is evident by their success in this competitive event. These skills that they have gained will also prepare them for a vibrant future in their chosen career path.”
Winners from Walnut Grove High School were Jordan Kimsey, who won 2nd place in the firefighting competition, and Ethan Milligan, Bryce O’Connor, Ryan Sizemore and Zane Warwick, who won 2nd place in broadcast news production competition.
The SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference was held at the International Convention Center in Atlanta on March 25 – 28. The event allowed more than 2,000 participants to compete in more than 100 skilled and leadership competitions. Business and industry partners welcomed competitors into their facilities to test their skills and try out a career through first hard, real life experienced.
“Through SkillsUSA, students learn skills that prepare them for the future and help them discover careers they love,” said State School Superintendent Richard Woods. “As we work to personalize education for all students, opportunities for hands-on career exploration could not be more important. I congratulate these student winners and commend every student who participated.”
SkillsUSA is a national, nonprofit organization that empowers students to become workers, leaders, and responsible citizens. SkillsUSA Georgia is the career and technical student organization for students enrolled in architecture, construction, communication and transportation (ACCT), cosmetology, and public safety pathways in Georgia’s secondary schools.
