ATLANTA – House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) appointed State Representative Calvin Smyre (D-Columbus) to the Georgia World Congress Center Authority (GWCCA) Overview Committee.
“I am honored by my appointment to the GWCCA Overview Committee, and I’m grateful to Speaker Ralston for allowing me to serve in this capacity,” said Rep. Smyre. “As construction on the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, GWCCA’s newest facility, comes to a close, I look forward working as a part of the Georgia World Congress Center Authority Overview Committee as we enter this new era of initiatives and development projects. The future of GWCCA is bright, and I’m determined to see the continued progress of one of Georgia’s greatest infrastructural assets. ”
The GWCCA Overview Committee is responsible for monitoring and reviewing the operations of the GWCCA. Rep. Smyre’s term will run concurrent with his 2017-2018 legislative term of office as a member of the Georgia General Assembly.

Representative Calvin Smyre represents the citizens of District 135, which includes portions of Muscogee County. He was elected into the House of Representatives in 1974, currently serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Higher Education and the Higher Education and Rules committees.
