ATLANTA – State Representative Carl Gilliard (D-Savannah) will host the 2025 Kickoff Meeting for the Chatham County Gang Prevention and Intervention Commission on Friday, April 18, 2025, from 9:45 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the Georgia Southern University Jr. Achievement Discovery Center on the Armstrong Campus in Savannah, Georgia.
“Recently, Savannah has experienced a rise in violence, including shootings and murders in the past few months,” said Rep. Gilliard. “It’s important that we take a proactive approach to engage with our youth and young adults. At the kickoff meeting, we will introduce three initiatives aimed at reducing youth violence in Savannah, which are set to be launched as soon as this summer.”
Created by House Bill 750, which was passed and signed into law during the 2021 legislative session, the Chatham County Legislative Gang Prevention and Intervention Commission is tasked with submitting an annual report that recommends coordinated efforts between educational institutions and community organizations to prevent and address youth gang involvement in Chatham County.
