ATLANTA – State Representative Carl Gilliard (D-Savannah) will host a bridge dedication ceremony for Lawrence Hutchins, Jr. on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. at A.E. Beach High School in Savannah.
Following the ceremony, guests are invited to participate in a motorcade to visit the memorial bridge.
During the 2022 legislative session, Rep. Gilliard introduced House Resolution 942 to dedicate a bridge on U.S. Route 17 east of Red Gate Farms Road (over the CSX Rail Line) in Chatham County in honor of Mr. Hutchins. This resolution was incorporated into Senate Resolution 596, which serves as the Georgia General Assembly’s annual road/bridge dedication legislation.
Mr. Hutchins is known for his impact on music education and his contributions to organizations including the National Association for Music Education and Georgia Music Educators Association. He worked as a music teacher and band director for 43 years.
