ATLANTA – State Representative Carl Gilliard (D-Savannah) will host a road dedication ceremony in honor of the late Judge Willie Lovett Jr. on Friday, August 25, 2023, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Savannah State University’s Student Union (Ballroom B).
Following the ceremony, guests will caravan to the intersection to watch the dedication sign placement. Guests will then return to the university’s Student Union for a luncheon.
The late Judge Lovett has long been recognized for a legal career of more than 25 years. He served as a judge in the Fulton County Juvenile Court system. He also clerked for the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals. He passed away in January 2017.
During the 2023 legislative session, Rep. Gilliard sponsored House Resolution 491 to dedicate the intersection of State Route 204 at Eisenhower Drive in Chatham County in honor of the late judge. This resolution was incorporated into House Resolution 256, which serves as the Georgia General Assembly’s annual road/bridge dedication legislation.
