ATLANTA – House Bill 52, sponsored by State Representative Carmen Rice (R-Columbus), passed out of the House last week on Crossover Day, March 6, 2025. Rep. Rice thanked her colleagues for their support in advancing the legislation, which would update homestead exemptions for qualified disabled veterans.
“I am grateful for the support of my colleagues in the Georgia House of Representatives in advancing this much-needed legislation that will provide significant benefits to Georgia’s disabled veterans and their families,” said Rep. Rice. “House Bill 52 represents an important step in ensuring that the brave men and women who have made tremendous sacrifices for our country, along with their families, receive the ongoing support they rightfully deserve. Homestead exemptions like this are vital in ensuring our veterans and their loved ones continue to receive the respect, resources and recognition they’ve earned.”
Under HB 52, an un-remarried surviving spouse or minor children of a disabled veteran would be allowed to continue receiving the homestead exemption granted to the disabled veteran, regardless of whether the un-remarried surviving spouse or minor children relocate to any other county in the state. The bill is now awaiting consideration in the Senate, and, if passed, the legislation would require approval by Georgia voters during the November 2026 general election.
