Rep. Carolyn Hugley Appointed to House Study Committee on Safety & Consumer Protection of Nicotine Vapor Products

ATLANTA – State Representative Carolyn Hugley (D-Columbus) was recently selected by Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) to serve on the House Study Committee on Safety and Consumer Protection of Nicotine Vapor Products.

“Nicotine vapor products pose significant health risks, especially to our youth, with potential long-term consequences such as respiratory issues, cardiovascular problems and addiction,” said Rep. Hugley. “The establishment of the House Study Committee on Safety and Consumer Protection of Nicotine Vapor Products is essential to thoroughly investigate electronic cigarettes, e-liquids, and other nicotine vapor products. I am grateful to be selected to serve on this distinguished committee that will play a crucial role in safeguarding public health, ensuring consumer safety and developing comprehensive recommendations to protect our citizens from the dangers of these products. It is our responsibility to act now and address this growing public health concern.”

Created pursuant to House Resolution 1283, the House Study Committee on Safety and Consumer Protection of Nicotine Vapor Products will conduct an in-depth study of health and safety concerns related to electronic nicotine vapor products with the goal of developing proposed legislation that will aide Georgians who consume these products.

Speaker Burns also appointed the following study committee members: State Representatives Mesha Mainor (R-Atlanta), Gary Richardson (R-Evans), Houston Gaines (R-Athens), Dale Washburn (R-Macon) and Alan Powell (R-Hartwell), ex-officio.

Representative Carolyn Hugley represents the citizens of District 141, which includes portions of Muscogee County. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 1992 and currently serves as the Secretary of the Insurance Committee. She also serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and the Banks & Banking, Rules and Urban Affairs committees.
