Rep. Carter Hosts Hands-Free Driving Law Forum

ATLANTA – State Representative Doreen Carter (D-Lithonia) and Pastor Eric Lee Sr. recently hosted “Getting a Grip on House Bill 673: Everything You Need to Get a Handle on the Hands-Free Law.” The Hands-Free Georgia Act, which was passed during the 2018 legislative session of the Georgia General Assembly, creates a hands-free driving law in Georgia that took effect on July 1, 2018.

“The hands-free driving law forum was a great success, and I was glad to be able to relay important information about Georgia’s new law to my constituents,” said Rep. Carter. “Last summer, I served as a member of the House Study Committee on Distracted Driving, and after hearing testimonies from loved ones of individuals who lost their lives due to distracted driving, law enforcement personnel and medical professionals, it was clear that our state needed to do something about distracted driving. I’m proud that the Hands-Free Georgia Act has recently taken effect, and I’m confident that this new law will save countless lives.”

During the forum, Rep. Carter, Rep. Pam Stephenson (D-Decatur), Judge Ronald Ramsey with the State Court of DeKalb County Traffic Division and Lt. Jake Coggins with the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office educated attendees on the Hands-Free Georgia Act and answered questions regarding the new hands-free driving law.
