ATLANTA- Representative Amy Carter (D- Valdosta) gained new influential committee assignments last week when new House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) appointed her Secretary of the Higher Education Committee and gave her a position on the newly created Special Committee on Small Business Development and Jobs Creation. Representative Carter will also continue to serve on the Appropriations and Education Committees.
“I am honored that Speaker Ralston would entrust me with positions on such key committees,” said Representative Carter. “As a teacher I am thrilled to be able to continue my work with the Education and Higher Education Committees. However, I am also excited to serve on the Appropriations and Small Business Development and Jobs Creation Committees. I believe these committee assignments will enable me to help all of my neighbors in Lowndes County to find economic success as we begin to rebound from our current recession.”
As Secretary of the Higher Education Committee, Representative Carter became one of only a small handful of Democrats appointed to a committee leadership position.
