ATLANTA – State Representative Chuck Martin (R-Alpharetta), chairman of the House Higher Education Committee, recently joined Governor Brian Kemp as he signed House Bill 217, legislation Rep. Martin co-sponsored that strengthens workforce development in Georgia by extending the Dual Achievement Program and improving scholarship verification and school board election rules.
“I applaud the Georgia General Assembly and Governor Kemp for their continued support of Georgia’s students and workforce development initiatives in our state,” said Rep. Martin. “House Bill 217 is a critical investment in Georgia’s future by creating a pathway between education and employment, equipping students with the tools they need to succeed. By extending the Dual Achievement Program and streamlining scholarship verification, we’re opening more doors for students, easing burdens on families and preparing Georgia’s workforce for long-term achievement in a rapidly evolving economy.”
HB 217 is agency legislation from the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) that restructures the Dual Achievement Program and extends its pilot for another five years. The bill also includes provisions from the Georgia Student Finance Commission (GSFC) to allow the use of Department of Revenue (DOR) data to verify income for Georgia Promise Scholarship applicants and clarifies the enrollment count date related to the school board elections nepotism clause.
