ATLANTA – State Representative Chuck Martin (R-Alpharetta) announced today that he will continue to serve as state representative for House District 49. He issued the following comment:
“Over the past several weeks, I have spoken with many Georgians from House District 49 and the Sixth Congressional District about a potential run for Congress.
“I have been humbled by the encouragement I have received; however, when the 2017 legislative session of the Georgia General Assembly convenes on January 9, 2017, I will be sworn-in to represent and continue in service to House District 49. As such, I will not be a candidate for the Sixth Congressional District.
“My decision is based in large part on my love for my family and community and my wish to stay close to both. To run for, and win, a Congressional office means taking a full time political job in Washington, DC. For those that know me, you know my heart is a Georgia heart, so leaving would be especially hard. I appreciate those that have chosen to serve in the United States House even more after navigating this process, and I thank you all for serving, especially our own, Representative Tom Price.
“Today, and every day, I am humbled and honored to be able to serve while still living and working daily in the community and state I love.
“Today is Legislative Day 1, and I enter it with renewed energy and enthusiasm having spoken with so many Georgians – thank you for allowing me to serve.”
Representative Chuck Martin represents the citizens of District 49, which includes portion of Fulton County. He was elected into the House of Representatives in 2002, and is currently the Chairman of Budget & Fiscal Affairs Oversight Committee. He also serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on General Government and the Energy, Utilities, & Telecommunications, Regulated Industries, Science & Technology, and Ways & Means committees.
