ATLANTA— State Representative Chuck Martin (R-Alpharetta) will introduce tomorrow local legislation that would move Fulton County to a performance based system for evaluating county employees.
“Taxpayers expect accountability in their government and efficient use of their tax dollars, which are lacking under the current system,” said Rep. Martin. “This legislation will provide greater flexibility for the county, reward hardworking employees, and allow for a more effective system that is more responsive to the needs of Fulton County residents.”
Rep. Martin’s legislation would apply to all Fulton County employees in all branches and divisions within the county government hired after the legislation’s effective date. The legislation would not alter the status of any current employee who remains in their current position. Should a current employee choose to accept a change in position within the government, that employee would then become an “unclassified” worker and lose eligibility for the current system.
Rep. Martin’s legislation would not alter the salary or any other benefits entitled to Fulton County employees.
Whether falling under the current system’s “classified” status or the performance based “unclassified” status, under this legislation all employees would continue to be protected by federal employment protections.
