Rep. Coomer Withdraws from Consideration for the Georgia Court of Appeals

ATLANTA – State Representative Christian Coomer (R-Cartersville) sent the following letter to House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) and other members of House leadership on Wednesday, April 25, 2018:

Two weeks before the General Assembly adjourned sine die, I was nominated to fill a vacancy on the Georgia Court of Appeals.  My focus and attention remained on doing my job as a Representative and the Majority Caucus Whip until the end of the legislative session.  Following the session, I was selected by the Judicial Nominating Commission as a one of the nominees who would be interviewed by the commission in its process of narrowing the field of nominees for Governor Deal’s appointment.  The JNC interviews will take place next week.

After deliberate, prayerful reflection and consultation with my family, I have decided to withdraw my name from consideration for the appointment and continue my service in the House of Representatives.  While I am honored to have been considered for the important work of the appellate courts, my heart’s desire is to remain serving in the House of Representatives.  We still have important work to do as conservatives, keeping Georgia as the number one state to do business, raise families, get an education, keep a job, take a vacation, catch a flight, ship a container, get medical care, or watch a football game!  We have a positive message of keeping government confined to its constitutional limits, while protecting every life, born and unborn, securing liberty, and protecting private property.  I’m committed to carrying that torch with you and all our colleagues for as long as my neighbors keep sending me to Atlanta to be their Representative.  I look forward to continuing our good work together.

Representative Christian Coomer represents the citizens of District 14, which includes portions of Bartow and Floyd counties. He was elected into the House of Representatives in 2010, and currently serves as the House Majority Whip. He serves as a member of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation & Infrastructure and on the Banks & Banking, Transportation, Judiciary Non-Civil, Retirement, Rules and Juvenile Justice committees.
