ATLANTA – State Representative Darlene Taylor (R-Thomasville), chair of the House Governmental Affairs Committee, was recently named the 2021 Woman of the Year by the Thomasville-Thomas County Chamber of Commerce. Rep. Taylor was recognized by the chamber during its annual Community Impact Awards dinner on Nov. 4.
“Thomasville-Thomas County Chamber of Commerce is one of the most dynamic and impactful organizations in southwest Georgia, and it is an honor to be recognized by the chamber in this capacity,” said Rep. Thomas. “Local governments across our state look to Thomasville and Thomas County as the prime example of preserving small town living, and our chamber of commerce has been a huge proponent for our community’s success. This chamber has been a great resource for other women business leaders like myself, and I look forward to working with them closely in the future.”
The Thomasville-Thomas County Chamber of Commerce, along with Southwest Georgia Farm Credit, hosts the annual Community Impact Awards dinner to recognize and celebrate business excellence and honor outstanding professionals in seven categories. Rep. Taylor was chosen by a selection committee comprised of local chamber executives, Southwest Georgia Chamber of Commerce executives and the Georgia Chamber of Commerce’s rural development manager.
The award categories include Woman of the Year, Man of the Year, Small Business of the Year, Large Business of the Year, Non-Profit Organization of the Year, the Covey Agriculture Award by Southwest Georgia Farm Credit and the Bob “Hutch” Hutchison Legacy Award.
Representative Darlene Taylor represents the citizens of District 173, which includes Grady County and portions of Thomas and Decatur counties. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 2010 and currently serves as Chairman of the Governmental Affairs Committee, Vice Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and Vice Chairman of the Legislative & Congressional Reapportionment Committee. She also serves on the Agriculture & Consumer Affairs, Insurance, Public Safety & Homeland Security, Rules and Transportation committees.
