ATLANTA – State Representatives David Wilkerson (D-Austell) was recently named 2016 Policy Maker of the Year by the Georgia Association for Career and Technical Education (GACTE).
“Education is the bedrock to maintaining strong communities throughout Georgia, as well as a prosperous economy for the entire state,” said Rep. Wilkerson. “By providing students with increased opportunities in career, technical and agricultural education, we will allow our communities and workforce to thrive for generations to come. It is an honor to be recognized by GACTE, and I thank them for this award.”
The Policy Maker of the Year Award is given annually to legislators who have made a significant contribution to career, technical, and agricultural education (CTAE).
“Representative Wilkerson was selected to receive this award because of his strong support of our CTAE programs as a member of the Georgia House of Representatives,” said GACTE Executive Director Matthew Gambill. “He has contributed to the success of CTAE programs for years both prior to being elected and during his time as a member of the Georgia House.”
Founded in 1926, GACTE is made up of CTAE educators who are committed to advancing career and technical education in ways that keep pace with the state’s workforce demands and prepare CTAE students to go to college or directly into the workforce.
“When a student leaves high school with an employable skill, it helps ensure that we will have a well-trained workforce which in turn brings jobs and economic development to Georgia,” said Gambill. “Representative Wilkerson has contributed to that effort, and I am honored to present this award to our friend and supporter David Wilkerson.”
The Georgia Association for Career and Technical Education has over 2,400 individual members representing the full scope of CTAE programs offered in Georgia’s 181 school systems. Association membership consists of middle and high school teachers, school counselors, CTAE administrators, principals, superintendents, employees and faculty of the University System and Technical College System of Georgia, and businesses and industry partners.
