ATLANTA –State Representative Deborah Gonzalez (D-Athens) was recently appointed Vice Chair of the National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators’ (NHCSL) Law & Criminal Task Force. Rep. Gonzalez was selected for this position based on her work as a member of the House Judiciary Non-Civil Committee.
“I am honored to be appointed to a leadership position on such an important task force on a national platform,” said Rep. Gonzalez. “I was proud to serve on Georgia’s Judiciary Non-Civil Committee during the 2018 session, and it reinforced that we still have much work to do in terms of correcting the injustices of the past. I believe working on this national task force will provide additional materials and opportunities for me to continue my work on criminal justice in Georgia, and I am currently putting together a Georgia advisory board to assist me on this task force.”
The NHCSL is the preeminent organization serving and representing the interests of Hispanic state legislators from all states, commonwealths, and territories of the United States. The NHCSL was founded in 1989 as a non-partisan, 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization, representing over 300 elected Hispanic State legislators throughout the United States, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Since its founding, the NHCSL’s primary mission has been to organize Hispanic state legislators who advocate on behalf of Hispanic communities across the United States.
Representative Deborah Gonzalez represents the citizens of District 117, which includes portions of Barrow, Clarke, Jackson, and Oconee counties. She was elected into the House of Representatives in 2017 and currently serves on the Code Revision, Intragovernmental Coordination and Judiciary Non-Civil committees.
