ATLANTA – State Representative Debra Bazemore (D-South Fulton) will host House District 69 High School Check-In Day on Monday, January 29, 2023, from 10 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. in room 216 of the Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta.
“In recent years, the Georgia state legislature has been moving toward improving access to mental health resources in our state,” said Rep. Bazemore. “Legislation such as the Mental Health Parity Act establishes committees to study the mental health crisis faced by our state and to give recommendations to the legislature on how we can address this crisis. As we continue to address mental health issues, we cannot ignore one of the most vulnerable segments of our citizenry, our youth. So often our youth do not receive the assistance or support that they need to navigate the emotional traumas that they face each day. Throughout the day, we will have breakout sessions that focus on specific topics that our high school students face each day, allowing them to voice their concerns in a safe and comfortable environment.”
Students from Banneker High School and Fayette County High School will be in attendance to learn about the legislative process. Guest speakers, Dr. Sherry Blake, an expert clinical psychologist with more than 30 years of experience in helping individuals prioritize their emotional wellness, and partners from the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) will be in attendance to deliver remarks to the students.
