ATLANTA – State Representative Dee Dawkins-Haigler (D-Lithonia) was recently was sworn in as a 2015 State Director for Women in Government following her election to this position by her fellow state legislative colleagues in 2014.
“I am elated to serve as State Director of Georgia for such an esteemed organization as the Women in Government Foundation,” said Rep. Dawkins-Haigler. “For 27 years, this organization continues to pride itself on the development of women legislators across the country. I will continue to use this platform, as well as my chairmanship of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus, to promote the strengthening of women policymakers and the development of future young minds interested in government.”
Rep. Dawkins-Haigler’s swearing in as State Director was held at the 21st Annual State Directors’ and 11th Biennial First Term Legislators’ Conference in St. Pete Beach, Florida. At the conference, women state legislators heard from expert speakers on a variety of public policy topics and their impact on states. Topics included: developing energy, diversity, the role of nutrition in healthy aging, methods for creating opportunities for families, diabetes prevention and awareness, and many others. This meeting also provided attendees with the opportunity to network with colleagues across state borders and share best practices to advance successful public policies.

Representative Dee Dawkins-Haigler represents the citizens of District 91, which includes portions of DeKalb and Rockdale counties. She was elected into the House of Representatives in 2008, and currently serves on the Banks & Banking, Human Relations & Aging, and Science and Technology committees.
