ATLANTA – State Representative Doreen Carter (D-Lithonia) today announced that the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is now accepting Local Management & Improvement Grant Program (LMIG) applications from cities across House District 93.
“I want to urge my city and county officials to apply for these vital grant funds as soon as possible,” said Rep. Carter. “Atlanta’s urban sprawl continues to congest our local roads, and commuter road use in DeKalb, Newton and Rockdale communities is only going to increase in the coming years. This funding is absolutely crucial to keeping our roads safe for drivers for many years to come, and I am proud that I voted ‘yes’ on the state budget that made this year’s program possible.”
GDOT recently invited the following city/county governments in House District 93 to apply: Conyers, Covington, Lithonia, Oxford, Stonecrest, DeKalb, Newton and Rockdale. LMIG grants are strictly designated for road improvement projects, such as repaving, updating storm drains, fixing guardrails and more.
The LMIG program aims to provide local governments with greater flexibility and quicker project delivery.
Each city/county is eligible for various award amounts according to the state’s Fiscal Year 2024 program formula, which may be found here. The state’s annual LMIG allocation is based on the total centerline road miles for each local road system and the total population of each county or city as compared with the total statewide centerline road miles and total statewide population.
Starting this year, local governments are able to apply online via the LMIG Grants Management System. Cities and counties may submit their applications until February 1, 2024.
