ATLANTA – State Representative Demetrius Douglas (D–Stockbridge) commends Arriel Barganier, a recent graduate from Lovejoy High School in Hampton, for being selected as a 2020 Comcast Leaders & Achievers Scholar.
“I want to congratulate and commend Miss Barganier for setting an incredible example to rising seniors at Lovejoy,” said Rep. Douglas. “The Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program is highly sought after, and I am excited that one of our very own in House District 78 was selected for this exceptional scholarship. I wish Arriel all the best as she navigates her freshman year of college.”
Arriel Bargainer was selected for her outstanding community service, academic performance and leadership skills. Arriel will attend the University of Michigan in the fall, where she will study mechanical engineering. She is one of 32 scholars selected from across Georgia to receive a scholarship this year.
The award is funded by the Comcast NBCUniversal Foundation, and it is a one-time scholarship of $2,500, which can be used toward undergraduate education-related expenses. Since 2001, approximately $33 million has been awarded to about 30,000 high school seniors across the country as part of the Leaders and Achievers program. This year, students from across
Georgia have received a total of $80,000 in scholarship funds.

The Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program recognizes high school seniors for their community service, academic performance and leadership skills. These scholarships are provided to give young people the opportunity to continue their education to better compete in tomorrow’s workplace. Applicants to the Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program must demonstrate academic excellence, commitment to community service, as well as outstanding qualities in character, integrity and leadership.
