ATLANTA—State Representative Eddie Lumsden (R–Armuchee) has been named the 2014 Policy Maker of the Year by the Georgia Association for Career and Technical Education. The Policy Maker of the Year Award is given annually to legislators who have made a significant contribution to career, technical, and agricultural education (CTAE).
“It is an honor to receive this award,” said Rep. Lumsden. “Career, technical and agriculture education are crucial to providing young people with bright opportunities and ensuring that the future work force obtains the skills that employers need. I have enjoyed working with the Georgia Association for Career and Technical Education throughout the year in developing policy that promotes CTAE.”
The Georgia Association for Career and Technical Education selected Rep. Lumsden for the Policy Maker of the Year award due to his support and sponsorship of House Bill 766, legislation which allows students over the age of 16 to earn course credit for participation in work based learning opportunities. HB 766 received broad bi-partisan support during the 2014 Georgia General Assembly legislative session and was signed into law by Governor Deal on Monday, April 21, 2014.
The Georgia Association for Career and Technical Education was founded in 1926 and has over 2,700 individual members representing the full scope of CTAE programs in Georgia. Association membership consists of middle and high school teachers, school counselors, graduation coaches, CTAE administrators, principals, superintendents, employees and faculty of the Technical College System of Georgia, and businesses and industry partners.
