ATLANTA— State Representative Edward Lindsey (R-Atlanta) recently received the “Champions Award” from the International Association of Firefighters (IAF).
“I am very humbled to receive the IAF Champions Award,” said Rep. Edward Lindsey. “Firefighters are the cornerstone of public service, and every elected official should strive to be their champion. I will continue to do all that I can to ensure all firefighters have the support they need to continue their vital service for the people of the state of Georgia.”
IAF’s Champions Award is given to the civic leader who, through advocacy and support, most contributed to helping that organization achieve its mission to protect and advance the interests of Atlanta’s firefighters. Recipients are chosen by the Atlanta Fire Foundation Breakfast with Our Bravest Awards Selection Committee, which is composed of both civilians and fire-rescue department personnel. The committee solicits advice and opinions from key influencers and reviews the past year’s efforts to select the award recipients.
Upon being presented with the award, IAF honored Rep. Lindsey by saying: “With deep affection and profound appreciation, the 2012 International Association of Fire Fighters’ Champions Award is presented to Georgia House Representative and Majority Whip, Edward Lindsey, for his abiding friendship and faithful support to Atlanta’s firefighters.”
The annual awards ceremony, entitled, Breakfast with our Bravest, was hosted by the Atlanta Fire Foundation and honors firefighters and emergency-rescue personnel for their dedication, community service, valor and commitment. The event also provides an opportunity for the community to celebrate the daily work of brave men and women, as well as recognize the sacrifice of these service people and their families. This year’s event was hosted by Fire Chief Kelvin Cohran, who was joined by honorary chair Governor Roy E. Barnes and emcee Ted Hall, 11Alive news anchor.
